Welcome to the home base for our 2024 Fic Rec Exchange! This post will house requests, recs, and treats. For full rules, information, timeline, and FAQ, check out our announcement post. To ask questions or request assistance, leave a comment on our help post.

We are currently in the POSTING PERIOD, which means signups are closed! Those who have signed up, you have until December 23rd to post your recs as a reply to your claim on this post. See below for formatting recommendations, though you have freedom to add or streamline as you'd prefer.

If you’d rather just give a treat (a one-off recommendation of any kind of fanwork) with no commitment, come back and join us from November 23rd to December 29th!

When posting a claim, please be sure to include

• 3-5 completed fics for the fandoms requested, if there were any (your recs can all be for the same fandom, or split up between the requests) + any wildcard recs you'd like to add
• Links to the fics you are recommending
• Content warnings for each fic, where relevant

Hiya! This is your "oops all arranged marriage/marriage of convenience!" recs post.

1) seldom all they see by Fahye
Fandom: The Untamed

Content warnings: canon-typical violence and allusions/going over things that happen in canon
Notes: It's a fic that dares to ask - what if Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian were betrothed since they were kids? And it turns out the answer is "so many fewer people die!" It's an unusual arranged marriage in that so much of it takes place pre-the marriage, but the betrothal is intense and you still get the usual arc of protectiveness. Lots of political intrigue still in here! A wonderful read of Lan Wangji being annoyed by Wei Wuxian to being so protective of him - very close to canon except he can SAY it in this fic. Because they're betrothed. There's also fun nuance about the Lan sect rules around marriage, which is a brilliant detail.

2) Mary Penner's Great Grandson by Oplopanax
Fandom: Hockey RPF

Ship: Tyson Barrie/Nathan Mackinnon, side ship Jamie Benn/Tyler Seguin
Content warnings: extremely misogynist/religious society (also omegaverse), threat of sexual violence, community "approved" abuse/mistreatment of a character, dubious consent during the wedding night
Notes: The AU of all AUs (characters are so very far removed from their irl personas it might as well be original fiction), the MOST arranged marriage, and the most "trying to explain the changes in your life but they're bonkers." I don't know how you feel about religious trauma being worked through via fic, but this feels like one of those fics. But all the content warnings are Dealt With via the arranged marriage, and also the very clever maneuvering by our main/side characters to ensure everything ends up just like they should is beautiful to watch. Soft power to the extreme. It's an absurd fic, but it's an absurd fic I love and one of my favorite arranged marriage fics of all time (mostly because the dubcon is done So Well).

3) Some Other Beginning's End by turningterrific

Content Warnings: Russia invasion of Ukraine mentioned/is a plot point, random mentions of Toews/Kane. Apologies, this fic came out in 2014, and they were popular???
Notes: I'm sure the fandom is united in considering King & Lionheart THEE Sid/Geno arranged marriage fic, but this one is marriage of convenience and it includes surprise baby acquisition! They get married for immigration and baby safety reasons after they're already friends and Sid chooses; to agree because he really wants Geno to stick around. So it's classic marriage of convenience where they realize they've kind of had a thing for each other for a while and it's So Easy to be married and then the sex is good too. CLASSIC. Plus, there are a bunch of co-parenting scenes!

Wild Card Rec 1) dance this silence down (the emergency room remix) by Fahye
Fandom: Les Miserables

Ship: Enjolras/Grantaire, side Cosette/Marius/Eponine
Content Warning: Grantaire is a drunk who may or may not have some other mental health issues going on; he's the POV character so you get the full wallop of them
Notes: My favorite fic of all time, it's a Les Mis modern au (where Enjolras is a DJ who owns a club) where only one character who dies in canon is dead. Has not one but two poly throuples (one of which is a solution to a love triangle), and is incredibly, incredibly found family. It's kind of the point of the fic - turns out Grantaire does have people who love him, and he didn't need to fix himself for them to do that, they just love him. Technically this is the remix to another fic, The People Sing, but it seems like they were conceived together, and they cover very different time spans and scenes. The og deals heavily with Cosette's struggle with her music contract, much less on the full Les Amis, but if you want more of her poly storyline you can read that, too!

Wild Card Rec 2) friday never hesitate by dalmatienne
Fandom: Hockey RPF

Content Warnings: excessive drinking, character getting blackout drunk, characters get hurt/have allergic reactions
Notes: Turning a hockey team into a frat house is a delightful AU idea and it's even better in practice in this fic. It also has a throuple getting together! Or rather, the POV boy deciding he wants to woo his two besties into said throuple and then implementing the plan. As the tags say so elegantly "hijinks & shenanigans" and "comedy of errors" and "the narrator is reliable but he's a moron." It's so good. So so good. And the house is less found family than the other fics, but it's still plenty family in the way that hockey teams (and presumably frats) are.
