Welcome to the home base for our 2024 Fic Rec Exchange! This post will house requests, recs, and treats. For full rules, information, timeline, and FAQ, check out our announcement post. To ask questions or request assistance, leave a comment on our help post.

We are currently in the POSTING PERIOD, which means signups are closed! Those who have signed up, you have until December 23rd to post your recs as a reply to your claim on this post. See below for formatting recommendations, though you have freedom to add or streamline as you'd prefer.

If you’d rather just give a treat (a one-off recommendation of any kind of fanwork) with no commitment, come back and join us from November 23rd to December 29th!

hello!! i bring you recs for the dark days of the winter

Night of the Living History (an edutainment special!), by Aerlalaith

The Untamed, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, 51,615 words

Brief Summary: “Wei Ying lands a job as the Yiling Patriarch at the Lanling Cultivation Museum. Lan Zhan (Hanguang-Jun 4x per week, Sect Leader Lan 2x per week) suffers accordingly.” a modern with cultivation AU involving getting together, family dynamics and a sprinkling of plot.

Note From The Reccer: I thought this was a really cool and unique AU—the museum is a great way to incorporate the modern with cultivation setting, and the specifics of history reenactment museum are very good: “the author's feelings about the edutainment industry” is a tag for a reason.

Content Warnings: some depiction of injury but way less than canon

Brief Summary: “A team of interstellar researchers, a spaceship crew, and the time they spend together.” a…cozy scifi AU? is that a thing?

Note From The Reccer: this has real Becky Chambers Long Way to a Small Angry Planet vibes, or maybe a less fraught Murderbot? i loved this fic sooo much when i first read it, and i adore the author (you may have read their GBBO au) so much. the crew-as-family feelings are excellent, and i think this author always has GREAT humor.

Content Warnings: the author doesn’t mention any and i don’t remember any either

Iron, Fire, Mirror-Glass, by PurpleSoot

Batman, Gen (Batman & Robin), 140,297 words

Brief Summary: An AU in which Robin is a fae that Bruce summons without really knowing what he’s doing.

Note From The Reccer: i’m obsessed with this story and have recommended it to sooooo many people (i think i’ve recced in it rec exchange before, but not to you specifically and it’s been a little while). it’s a SUPER inventive AU, the whole concept of ‘tense and contractually bound relationship turning into something like family’ as well as bruce having to teach robin how to exist in the human world is sooo cool, and you said you wanted longfics so… here you go lol.

Content Warnings: superhero-typical injury and violence (and ableism, tbh) as well as kid-shaped fae being in danger a lot (arguably better than actual child canon robin? idk)

Monster of the Week, by freezeveganpolice

Stranger Things, Robin Buckley/Nancy Wheeler, 225,020 words

Brief Summary: An X-Files AU for Stranger Things’ biggest femslash ship.

Note From The Reccer: once again, you said longfic and i Went For It lol. because this is an AU, i think it’s totally readable without canon knowledge (as long as you know that like there’s spooky stuff happening that’s maybe scifi or maybe supernatural), and let me tell you: i devoured this fic. i think it’s a MASTERFULLY done au in the way it pulls from both canons and introduces the new backstory and plot so steadily and comfortably, and it’s just absolutely compulsively readable.

Content Warnings: the author includes some content warnings for individual chapters, so i won’t repeat those here, but definitely believe the archive warning for graphic depictions of violence. all fairly canon typical (def for ST, maybe for XFiles, but i realize that doesn't help if you’re not familiar)
