Welcome to the home base for our 2024 Fic Rec Exchange! This post will house requests, recs, and treats. For full rules, information, timeline, and FAQ, check out our announcement post. To ask questions or request assistance, leave a comment on our help post.

We are currently in the POSTING PERIOD, which means signups are closed! Those who have signed up, you have until December 23rd to post your recs as a reply to your claim on this post. See below for formatting recommendations, though you have freedom to add or streamline as you'd prefer.

[REQUEST] SEVENTEEN (kpop), TWICE (kpop), The Untamed, Haikyuu, Final Fantasy VII
3-5 fandoms you are requesting recs for: SEVENTEEN (kpop), TWICE (kpop), The Untamed, Haikyuu, Final Fantasy VII
Likes/dislikes: This is going to sound contradictory but I love character-focused fics (think deep/rich character studies) and plotty/complex fics in equal measure. Give me political scheming! Give me a heist! Give me magical intrigue! But also, quiet character studies that really get into what makes a character tick. I love seeing characters go on quiet journeys of growth/self-love/understanding. Bonus points for strong platonic relationships as part of this equation/an ensemble cast. Romance is a much-loved and wanted part of this equation, but to me it's only a piece of the puzzle that has to come alongside great character work/plotting. When it comes to genre fic/plotty fic, I have a real love for sci-fi/fantasy settings, any sort of AU that involves political scheming (esp in a historical AU), and casefic. Especially the casefic!! I also love AUs set in a very specific setting that it's clear the author put a lot of time/effort/research into depicting with depth. Tonally I love fics that take the emotional stakes seriously but are also a little silly. Fics that make me laugh and cry in equal measure! Also would love more fics about women or that explore queerness (as a culture, as a marginalized identity, etc) more in-depth.
I'm mostly okay with reading anything and will try things even with ships I don't like but as a heads up, I'm not the biggest fan of Cloud/Sephiroth (for FFVII) nor Sakuatsu + Iwaoi (for Haikyuu fic). If there's a really incredible fic that you think I'd love with those ships than by all means go ahead and rec it! These ships are just ones I don't have much interest in/would prefer to avoid if possible, but are not strict DNWs.

Are you open to a “wild card” rec that does not fit your requested fandoms?: Absolutely yes! While I prefer fics from the fandoms I've requested, I would rather have a wild card rec that fits my tastes more closely! So if you're between a wild card fic (or two, or three) that seems to be exactly what I want and sticking more closely to the fandoms I requested, go with the former!

Brief Summary: Jeonghan doesn’t have a league of evil exes, but Mingyu ends up running the gauntlet anyway.
Notes: This is kind of a mix of character and relationship study - both platonic and romantic. I think it's a really incredible portrayal of Jeonghan and his relationship with all of the members. The platonic relationships really shine through in this fic. It's lovely and tender and hurts just the right amount.

The Untamed/MDZS, Song Lan/Xiao Xingchen/Xue Yang, 32.5k
Brief Summary: Xue Yang is a Gridrunner. So is Song Lan. Xingchen is just trying keep them safe.
Notes: I adore this take on SXX... complicated guys making complicated choices! Incredible on the worldbuilding, but also the emotions and the characters and the plot is just right on point. I adore the SXX dynamic that was built here.

The Twilight Stood as Strangers Do by violettressed
The Untamed, Lan Wangji/Wei Wuxian, Lan Sizhui/Lan Jingyi, 32.6k
Brief Summary: When a shadow appears at Cloud Recesses, an impromptu night hunt begins to unfold.
Notes: This one is a part of a series but it essentially stands alone - you could totally read it without reading the rest if you want! It's heavy and heartbreaking but hopeful. Incredible study of Sizhui and the Lan Sect and WWX, but at the same time the author does a great job with the plot - it's a case fic that deals a lot with grief and family and I think that it hits that depth of character necessary for a really great post-canon fic. I'd also recommend the rest of this series, but this is definitely my favorite one.
Content Warnings: similar themes to The Untamed canon - grief, past character death, some violence

Brief Summary: “Yeah, but that’s, like….” Seungkwan pauses, making a face as he searches for what to say next. “A cry for help,” is what he settles on, and Jeonghan grimaces.
“I’m not crying for anything,” he says.
Notes: Jeonghan character study, again, because I have a brand - this one, too, does so well with the platonic relationships (especially Jeonghan and Minghao). It's really about the trials of being an adult and the character development really shines through - Jeonghan and his journey really influence the whole story, including the romance! Again, a fic that makes you laugh at times but also hurts a little.

Wildcard Rec: wishbone (series) by hungers
NCT, Jaemin/Haechan, 27.6k
Brief Summary: best friends to enemies to enemies with benefits to lovers, and they're women!
Notes: Lesbians... truly an incredible story, hurts a lot but it's worth it. The relationship and the characters really shine - again, the ensemble cast in this one is great and the platonic relationships really make the story what it is. The characters and the complexity of friendship and being queer women are just portrayed so well. Love these fics so much and I hope you give them a shot!
